Supluse 1 woody plants and herbaceous plants survey
Address: Supluse 1, Tallinn, Harju County
Area: 2,4 hectares
Time of survey: 2024
An herbaceous plants survey and a woody plants survey were carried out on the property which lays next to the Pirita forest, forming visually one unit. It is a pine forest located on a sandy area, where various willows grow on the dunes on the sandy beach. Regular landscape maintenance takes place on the property, the area is mowed, so there are no shrubs. The root systems of trees have been damaged during the construction of various utility networks (e.g., street lighting) and structures (e.g., parking lot). Some trees grow in very difficult conditions, as a parking lot has been built on the area of their root system, some trees are paved up to the root collar on one or more sides. Some trees have been able to withstand such intervention better, and their crowns are green and dense, most trees have been severely damaged, their decline is expressed in the thinning of the crown, some trees only hold last year’s needles.
The Pirita forest is an area belonging to the heath forests type group, which in the past probably belonged to the heather habitat type. Footpaths run along the edge of the property, and disturbance from trampling can be seen throughout the area. Due to the addition of nutrients, species of more fertile communities have also started growing. Since there are no dominant species characteristic of the community, the species composition of the community has changed significantly.
