Viimsi Laanelille development woody plants survey

Address: Laanelinnu Road 2, 4, 6, Laanelille Road 1, 3, and Laanekivi Road 6, Haabneeme, Viimsi Parish, Harju County
Area: 2,4 hectares
Time of survey: 2022

Laanelinnu is a forested new development area in Viimsi Parish.

The complexity of this work stemmed from the methodology used. The method is describing the value of trees based on the conditions afforded to an individual tree, usually in artificial urban settings. However, the area of interest was a forest, where each tree is affected by intense competition for space and light and is not intended to grow and be preserved as an individual tree. Therefore, due to the complexity of the growing conditions, the trees in the area do not have the same value when viewed as individual trees as they do as a unified stand. Clearly conveying and communicating this fact in the survey was one of the main tasks of this work.

During fieldwork, several interesting observations were made – sightings of a deer and a fox, as well as evidence of moose and rabbit, were noted.
